About Us

Christmas in Action grew from an idea the size of a mustard seed into a national program that helps thousands each year.

While installing insulation at a CIA location in southern Oakland County, Phil Long and Ed Pedley asked the question…How could we help seniors in our own community? From there they went to the Village and Township of Holly to ask permission to start a Christmas in Action Chapter in Holly to help seniors in need with home repairs. They agreed and recognized CIA.

Our first workday was held in 2004 with some brave volunteers working on two houses with very little money. From there we have had the privilege to work on 40+ homes in the community over the last 14 years and have raised over $150,000 to help our seniors in need.

WORKDAY 2018 will be our 15th year and with your help and support we are going to keep growing and branching out. Giving back to our community is possible because of the wonderful support we have had over the years!

CIA National History

The seeds for Christmas in April (later named Christmas In Action) were planted in 1972 in Midland, Texas. Local citizens were encouraged to step outside the church walls and work on homes in the community. Since its inception, Christmas in Action has worked on over 10,000 projects nationwide. Thousands have given unselfishly so that others may live in safety, warmth, and independence. What started as a seed of an idea in a Sunday School class has been cultivated into a thriving nationwide movement!

Our Mission:

Working together to preserve and revitalize houses in our community assuring that low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners live in warmth, safety and independence in their own home.

Volunteers unite around a common goal of completing FREE home repairs for low-income seniors and/ or handicapped-elderly homeowners the last Saturday each April.

In partnership with the local business community, civic organizations, church groups and schools support this community project. We have many opportunities for you to become involved.

In a perfect world, there is no poverty. In a perfect world, all low-income and handicapped seniors are cared for by their families.

The harsh reality is that almost 20% of elderly Americans are shelter-poor. This means these seniors cannot afford necessities, let alone maintenance, after paying for housing costs. Through Holly CIA, you can become part of the solution. This is an opportunity for you to make a difference in our own community.

Christmas In Action is a nationwide, non-profit organization dedicated to providing FREE HOME REPAIRS for qualified low-income and/ or handicapped senior homeowners, at no cost to them. Volunteers provide home repairs to make our seniors’ homes safe and functional for the owner while improving the community as a whole.
